Education in Canadian schools

Schools starts at the age of 5-6 like many other European and American and it takes 12 years to get high-school diploma. These schools are called K-12. However, it takes 11 years in Quebec to finish your school studies. It should be noted that the age of mandatory education is a bit different in different provinces of Canada.

Like Iran, schools run five days in a week and they start from late August and end in early June. Considering the fact that there are two official languages in Canada i.e. French and English, you can choose either for your school. In some schools, junior high school separates elementary school and high school. State and private elementary schools are coed in Canada and it continues up to high school. You can, however, find single gender schools there.

When is the best time to study in Canadian schools?

In order to enjoy the highest level of chance of immigration, it is often recommended to start from the age of 10 to register in Canadian schools. Education for the foreigners requires introduction of a custody over the age of 18, residing in the province of the school they’re in. In elementary school, like high school, the person is not allowed to work and all the costs should be payed by the custody. Upon the entrance of collage, the person will be able to work.

To study in B.A. in Canada, you’ll need a language certificate (IELTS or TOEFL). Note that the score needed depends on the university and the major you’re applying. Furthermore, your high school and pre university average should not be less that 14.00. If you haven’t passed the pre university course in Iran, you’ll need to pass some non-university units before registration in university. It worth to mention that in order to study in some popular majors and some top universities, your diploma average should not be less than 15.
